I dont know if you knew this but Walmart has recipes online. They'll be from other websites of course like Tasty, or other independent chefs.
You have breakfast, lunch and dinner options also snacks, beverages and categories like Game Day, Special Occasions etc.
I was scrolling to find something other than my usual Chili, Taco or Spaghetti and stumbled across this recipe.
User beware: these recipes are not formatted in a user friendly manner. For example, as you can see in the images...prices and amount of each item is listed as you add the ingredients to your cart, HOWEVER, when you scroll down to directions, no measurements are listed. So you do scroll back and forth while cooking.
You could obviously just write the recipe down, but that does cancel my download for convenience factor.
Enough of the logistics let's talk review.
The Review
Off the bat, I had major reservations of 1 WHOLE can of pumpkin puree. I mean I get the idea, but in theory thats a LOT of pumpkin flavor. Yet, we press on.
Followed the steps and mixed my cheese mixture, boiled the noodles, (it said do not add salt to the pasta, which my non existent Italian grandmother would NEVER, so I didnt either).
By the time we got to the sauce making my inner struggle of "trust the process" and "dont do it Ms Ceily" were dueling fierce.
I couldnt do it yall. I just couldn't. Tasted the sauce and that pumpkin flavor was WAY to powerful. I added a little more tomato paste and it started to come around. It was giving Vodka Sauce but not quite.

By the time the noodles were done and the sauce was finished it was time to assemble.
Decided to just taste the separated parts together as 1 bite and see how it went.....Ma'am...Sir....my ancestors have never led me astray in the kitchen. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't good enough to throw over my $20 blue crab meat either. This sauce might be better over a penne or rigatoni with tomatoes and basil with fresh mozzarella?
Final Thoughts
Absolutely, NEVER again.
Crab, especially the real lump crab, has a distinct taste that does not belong in this dish. Is it edible? Meh, I changed a lot about it and still had an aftertaste that made me want a crab cake or a pizza. These do not belong in the same dish.
Have you had anything similar to this? Is there something you would do differently, besides not make it?
